Happy New Year
The holidays have come and gone here in Ramadi. While it was difficult to be away from my family and friends back home, we did have a great morale visit from Jim McMahon. Yes, the Chicago Bears 1985 Super Bowl Champion quarterback. I thought Debbie's family in Chicago would particularly enjoy this picture.
I want to wish everybody back home a Happy New Year and send you all my wishes for health and happiness in the coming year. I know I am ecstatic to be in a new year as I have a great deal to l0ok forward to:
-John Spong (one of my best friends and a writer for Texas Monthly) will be coming to Ramadi for a couple of weeks in January to write a story for his magazine.
-I will be resigning my commission from the United States Navy, closing what has been a wonderful 14 year career and a tremedously rewarding chapter in my life.
-I will be returning to Austin, Texas to start a new and exciting life with my family.
-I will be joining a surgical practice at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin with another one of my best friends John Uecker.
-I look forward to Texas Football season that doesn't end in an ugly victory in the Alamo Bowl.
-I will be turning 40 in November (not sure I'm looking forward to that one).
-What I look forward to most is coming home to my spectacular wife Debbie and the three most amazing kids in the world; Trevor, Madison, and Tyler. The thoughts and visions of seeing you all in just a couple of months is what keeps the light at the end of the tunnel so bright!

Wow. I thought the Fridge was a lot heavier than that. What else? Barna is fantastico. We raised a bottle of Cacaolat to you on the new year. And ate the traditional good luck butifarra in your honor.
Happy New Year Carlos! Sorry to say, we only managed to hook up with Debbie and Madison once. They both look FABULOUS!!! Debbie had on a BEAUTIFUL cross that she said was a Christmas gift from Ramadi, nicely done! It's GORGEOUS! Sounds like 2007 will bring a lot of wonderful things your way. Don't worry 40 is bad at all! It is actually quite a good thing! Be well, stay safe! Happy New Year! Love, Karen Alfano
Quiz: there are going to be 128 good reasons during 2007.
By the way, it is better to toast with 'cava' not just cacaolat. Perelman visited us and was impressive: he invited everyone with 4-dimension donuts (stuffed with cream). Remind me to his mother. Cousin Pepe.
